Welcome to wefla-secan 2024!
The Faculty of Arts and Communication and the Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of Holguin, Cuba, invite you to participate in the XVIII International Congress on Foreign Languages, Communication, and Culture, wefla 2024; and in the XVIII International Seminar on Canadian Studies, secan 2024, to be held face-to-face and online, April 24 to 26, 2024 in Brisas-Guardalavaca Hotel. A quarter of a century later… wefla 2024 and secan 2024 continue to provide an academic-family space for the exchange of experiences and international cooperation on new ways of providing quality education in the fields of language pedagogy, applied linguistics, art and culture, communication for development, and Canadian studies. The topics called for this time include (but are not restricted to): wefla 2024 -Foreign language pedagogy -Training and professional development for language teachers -Linguistics and applied linguistics -Theoretical and applied translation and interpreting studies -Intercultural studies -Literature, language, and culture Within the framework of wefla 2024, the First Colloquium on Communication as a Transversal Axis for Sustainable Development is convened secan 2024 -Cuba-Canada Relations -History and Politics -Indigenous Studies: Indigenous Peoples and Canada in the 21st Century -Language and Literature -Contemporary Issues:
OFFICIAL LANGUAGES Spanish, English, and French Proposals should be submitted in the language in which they will be presented. Interpretation from Spanish to English will only be provided during plenary sessions.
CALL FOR PROPOSALS The Academic Committee invites academics, researchers, and graduate students to send their proposals to present keynote lectures (30-40 mins), papers (15 mins), panels, round tables and workshops (45-60 mins), and posters. They can also send their proposals for pre- and post-congress courses or workshops (4hs- 8hs).
AUTHOR GUIDELINES Required format: Arial 10, 1.5 spacing, margin 2.5 cm; Letter page size, MSWord/OpenOffice . Abstract up to 250 words, title up to 15 words, 3 to 5 keywords, and a maximum of three (3) authors per paper.
The full text for publication will be submitted for blind peer review to be approved and published in the memories of the event. Text length between 6-10 pages. References in APA 2016 (citation index). All proposals must follow this format in order to be included in the Academic Program. *Those presenting in person should send their presentations in PowerPoint or equivalent to the Academic Committee before April 24. *Those presenting virtually must send a video that does not exceed 5 minutes with the main ideas of their proposal. The video will be presented by the moderator asynchronously if necessary. *In all cases there will be interaction among participants through the congress website. *All participants will be sent the link to join the event one week before the start of the event.
